TRANSLATION_TERMS OF USE

I put a lot of personal time and effort into my translations, so please keep these rules in mind for the future of the site and for my sanity.

First and foremost:
Please support the official releases where possible! Not only is this just good practice for projects you like (especially lower-budget ones like DIG-ROCK), it also helps to make this site feel a bit less of a legal gray area.

Especially when we start coming up on CDs that are not available on Spotify (anything post DUAL FES Vol. 3, I believe), it's less like I'm just translating existing content and more like I'm passing paid content onto you guys for free.

On that note, the main rule extending off of this is to not link this site or translations in the comments of official social media accounts, Youtube etc. While I doubt MintLip or TEAM Ent are all that bothered by this site's existence, I don't want to be put in the position where I have to take it down. So in conclusion, think of this site as and English-speaking fandom only archive, and don't make its existence too obvious to the officials behind the series.

1. Please do not reupload my translations in full to any other sites, blogs or social media. You may take sections of translated material to react to or discuss with other fans, for example. In fact, I love to see this, so if there's certain lines or moments you want to post about, please feel free. Credit for these uses is very appreciated, but not a necessity.

2. My translations are not equivalent to canon, and should not be treated as such. What I mean by this is that these translations are, by nature, not the same as official text. I have to do some guesswork as a translator, and that means not everything may come across exactly as intended (though I do my best). Aside from potential translation errors or lost context, this also inlcudes things like character voice. I try to translate in a way that shows each characters personality similarly to the original, but some fans and translators might see things differently, and that's alright.

3. Please do not retranslate the content of this site into other languages, at least not publicly. As I already said, translating into English requires me to take some liberties, and I'm not comfortable in having any such changes taken further. I particularly do not want any of my work to be retranslated through machine TL.

4. Do not use my work to sub drama tracks in full. Ask before subbing clips or compilations. I do have plans to, at some point in the future, provide visual aids with my translations so they're easier to engage with (especially for those without a Spotify subscription), so if you're interested in helping with something like that, feel free to contact me. Otherwise, simply DM me (@digrock_eng) to let me know what you plan to use the translations for and where, and I'll decide whether I'm happy with you to use them. I don't imagine there will be many circumstances where I won't be okay with small clips being subtitled, but I'd appreciate being aware of them!

ABOUT THE SITE

DIG-ROCK Eng is a fansite dedicated to translating and archiving content for music project DIG-ROCK into English. Why does this site exist? Because, as a realtive newcomer to the series, the lack of content available in English made me sad and I wanted to change that! I'm aware of translators focusing on individual parts of the series, but I really wanted to create a hub where I can, hopefully, end up with an easily-accessible library of everything DIG-ROCK for international fans.

The idea of making a website rather than a blog can be accredited to Jakkal and the phanto.moe Paradox Live fansite. I've always found blog hosting sites like Tumblr and Dreamwidth to be a little fiddly, so I thought I'd put my html skills to work. But I can't take much credit. The site itself is mainly held together by ribo.zone's cyanobacteria css template, which is linked at the bottom of every page.

As for who I am, I'm Arrow! I run a small translation account (@arrow_tls) where my main focus is translating song lyrics for series I like, and after deciding to translate DIG-ROCK content on a larger scale, I moved on over to @digrock_eng. I'm a native English speaker based in the UK (please forgive any stray vowels that make their way into my spelling) and I've been learning Japanese for years now. I wouldn't consider myself fluent, or a professional by any means, but I've been doing translations and interacting with the Japanese language for long enough now that I'm fairly confident in my abilities.

That said, I'm a human who is prone to mistakes. I don't have any proofreaders (yet!) so things are likely to escape my notice. When there's any major changes I do post about it on twitter for transparency. Everything translated on this site is translated by a very human me. No machine TL here.
